Roger Hershey, past President of King Hershey, has been a shareholder since 1988 and was an officer and director of the firm from 1988 until 2004 when he became Vice President & General Counsel of Park University. Since then he has been 'of counsel' to the firm and continues to represent select clients. Mr. Hershey earned his J.D. (with distinction) from University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1970, and returned there to earn his LL.M. in Corporate and Commercial Law in 1976. Mr. Hershey's practice in the firm is real estate oriented and includes complex commercial real estate and financial transactions with an emphasis on finance, land use and zoning. He has represented a broad range of clients including developers, owners, lenders, municipal bond issuers, as well as nonprofit, community development and environmental organizations, and individuals. Park University, headquartered in nearby Parkville, Missouri, has campus centers in three other Kansas City area locations plus another 39 campus centers across the nation, and serves over 25,000 students nationwide. As Vice President & General Counsel Hershey provides a variety of legal services to the University, its subsidiaries and affiliates, including fields such as labor, contracts, employment and discrimination, policy development, academic and free speech issues, long term finance, land use planning, leasing of the university-owned Parkville Commercial Underground. He recently lead the successful effort of the University to develop and adopt a new Master Plan and Design Guidelines for the Parkville Campus; he is also responsible for guiding the development of several hundred acres that are part of the University's endowment. He serves as a member of the President's Executive Staff, and as Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees, on which he served for eight years, having chaired it for two of those years. He also served four years as president and director of Park University Enterprises, Inc. that does business nationally as Fred Pryor Seminars, Evelyn Wood Reading Dynamic and Career Track. An active participant in civic and nonprofit groups, Hershey serves or has served as a board member, officer or other leader in organizations that include: the Park University Board of Trustees; the Truman Heartland Charitable Reinvestment Foundation; Independence Citizens for Streets and Parks; the Independence Council on Economic Development; the Independence Park Commission; the Independence Chamber of Commerce; the Mid-America Regional Council Metro Green Civic Leadership Board; Rotary Club of Kansas City, Missouri; The Boy Scouts of America; The Jackson County Historical Society; the Sierra Club and The Sierra Club Foundation. |
